[fanfiction] The Mister Who Killed The Sister

Once again, Arya Stark fell asleep in Snape’s class. Only this time, she woke up on her own, panting heavily, rather than being woken up by Snape’s condescending voice. Even though Arya was used to having visions by now, the exceptional clarity of this one left her shivering in the middle of the day. She excused herself from the class pretending to be sick and ran across the corridors into the Gryffindor common room, panic drawn out on her face. To her relief, she found Harry sitting there, along with Hermione and Ron, the three of them flipping through homework scrolls and engaging in idle chatter. Laid down on the table before them was the map for their quest tonight. The four of them had been assigned by Dumbledore to steal a Horcrux. One of Dark Lord’s Horcruxes.

Hermione was the first to notice Arya, her expression quickly transforming from cheery to concerned and perplexed. Arya recounted the vision to her friends in a trembling voice. What she had seen in her vision was too unsettling. She had seen Harry kill Sansa. She had seen him mouth the killing curse. It was definitely Harry. She also knew that her visions almost always predicted the future.

Around three years ago, Arya had received a letter from Hogwarts. The contents of the letter had reasonably perplexed her, even more than the fact that it had been delivered by an owl rather than a raven. It conveyed that she had been admitted to a certain school of magic. Attached with it was a list of items that she had been asked to buy before the term began – items like…a wand? At first, Arya thought it was one of Jon’s lame pranks. But when she ran to her father and showed him the letter with a questioning look, her father seemed the least bit surprised. All he said was “I should have known there would be a second in the family”, and walked away quietly, which only left Arya more perplexed.

Arya heard the whole story from her mother later. Magic was real. There were wizards and witches. However, she wasn’t the first in the family. Jon had gotten the letter too. The ruler of the North, the so-called “Dark Lord” was a dark wizard, not just an evil person. Her father Ned Stark was not a wizard, however, he was the former King of the North, and had been overthrown by an invasion by the magical Dark Lord. Her brother Robb Stark had not died of natural causes when she was four but had been murdered by a follower of the Dark Lord – a death eater. Following the loss of his kingdom and Robb’s death, her father had begun to intensely despise anything magic-related and had withdrawn Jon from his final year at Hogwarts.

In the end, her father had allowed her allowed her to attend Hogwarts, giving in to Jon’s convincing assertions that not all wizards and witches were bad, and in fact, some of them were genuinely noble. But here she was, having a predictive vision of one of her best friends murdering her muggle sister. She could not lose another family member to magic. She also could not believe that Harry would ever do such a thing. He was Harry, he would never harm an innocent person.

Even then, Arya could not brush off the strong fear in her mind. Something felt wrong. At night, the four of them set out on their broomsticks. She still could not look Harry in the eye. Harry had walked away offended earlier in the day when Arya had recounted her vision to him, Ron and Hermione. She felt bad for him now, but she did not know how to fix it. They reached the death eater hide-out and took out their wands, ready to face off the single death-eater that was supposed to be guarding the Horcrux. It was four against one, they were certain to win. She quickly saw that it was a woman with blond hair. Arya wondered if the death-eater knew what she really was guarding – a part of the Dark Lord’s soul. The death eater came on to face them. She lifted her hood a little, and then Arya saw it. The eyes – her sister’s eyes.

It was Sansa. It all made sense to her now.
